The Dinan Valved Axleback Exhaust gives you both. Built for the BMW G87 M2, it keeps the factory exhaust valves, so M Mode and your drive settings still control the sound exactly like stock. Valves closed, you get a deeper, more composed tone for the commute. Valves open, the S58 finally gets loud.
How the Dinan Valved Axleback Exhaust Sounds and Flows
With the valves closed, exhaust runs through Dinan's muffler, where absorption and reactive chambers work together to deepen the note and exit through the two inner tips. Open the valves under load and flow bypasses the muffler almost entirely, leaving through the outer tips in a near straight-through path. Tubing grows from 70mm stock to 76mm, and the whole axleback weighs 38 lbs against 44 lbs for the factory part.
It is built from T304 stainless steel, TIG welded, and finished with quad 4.5 in. (114mm) double-walled tips in black ceramic coating with laser engraving. The black finish looks right against the M2's rear diffuser.
Dinan Valved Axleback Exhaust Fitment, Tuning and Legality
No tune. No coding. No valve controller to wire in. The system reuses the stock valve actuators and bolts up with the included hangers and clamps for a factory-like fit. Vehicle Fitment
Fits the following BMW M model:
- BMW M2 / G87 Coupe (2023-2026): M2
Does not fit the F87 M2 (2016-2021) or the G42 M240i. M2 CS fitment is not confirmed.
Installation Notes
Plan on about 2.7 hours. The job is straightforward on a lift, and doable on jack stands for an experienced DIYer, but the axleback is long and heavy, so have a second set of hands. Professional installation is recommended. Let the exhaust cool completely before starting.
- Safely raise and support the car, and let the exhaust cool.
- Disconnect the factory valve actuator connectors and remove the stock axleback from its clamps and hangers.
- Transfer the factory valve actuators to the Dinan axleback if required by the instructions.
- Hang the Dinan axleback using the included hangers and clamps, align it evenly in the diffuser, then tighten all clamps.
- Install and align the black tips, reconnect the valve actuators, and start the car to check valve operation in each drive mode.
