The Dinan Valved Axle-Back Exhaust for the BMW G80 M3 and G82/G83 M4 replaces the factory rear section with 76mm T304 stainless tubing and four 4.5 in. black ceramic tips. Dinan measured +6 HP and +5 lb-ft at 6600 RPM, and the system weighs 38 lbs against 44 lbs stock.
How the Dinan M3 Axle-Back Exhaust Handles Drone
Sedan, coupe and convertible bodies resonate differently inside the cabin. A system that sounds right in an M4 can drone in an M3. Dinan developed one axle-back that behaves on all three body styles, then kept the factory exhaust valves working exactly as BMW designed them. Valves closed, exhaust routes through the Dinan muffler and exits the inner tips, so cold starts and highway miles stay civil. Valves open under high load, exhaust bypasses the muffler and you get near straight-pipe flow with the full S58 voice.
The tubing steps up from 70mm to 76mm and every piece is T304 stainless steel, TIG welded. The four 114mm double-walled clamp-on tips carry a black ceramic coating that suits a dark-trim M car.
Valved Axle-Back Exhaust Install and Legal Status
It is a bolt-on axle-back with a Dinan-quoted labor time of 2.7 hours, and no coding is needed because the factory valve control stays in place. Dinan states it does not affect vehicle emissions and is legal for sale or use on emissions-controlled vehicles. Want more? Installation Notes
A shop familiar with G8X cars will have this in about 2.7 hours. A DIYer with a lift and basic hand tools can do it too. Follow the Dinan instructions included with the kit.
- Let the exhaust cool completely and raise the car safely on a lift.
- Disconnect the factory exhaust valve actuators and loosen the clamps ahead of the rear section.
- Support the factory rear section, release it from the hangers and remove it.
- Hang the Dinan axle-back on the factory mounting points, connect it with the supplied clamps and transfer the valve actuators as directed.
- Fit and align the four tips, torque all clamps, reconnect the actuators and check for leaks and valve operation in each drive mode.
