The Dinan Resonator Delete Kit for the BMW F90 M5 and M5 Competition removes the factory resonator between the catalytic converters and the rear muffler. In its place goes larger-diameter T304 stainless steel tubing and a mandrel-bent X-pipe, replacing the factory hydro-formed resonated section. Dinan describes the result as a more aggressive tone, more volume, and a smoother, fuller note.
What the Dinan Resonator Delete Does to Your M5
With the resonator gone, more of the S63's sound reaches the rear muffler and the tips. The mandrel-bent X-pipe holds its diameter through the bends for minimum restriction, unlike stamped X-pipes, and balances flow between the two banks of the V8. That is what smooths out the tone instead of just making it louder. Dinan does not publish a horsepower figure for this kit. This is a sound upgrade, and we sell it as one.
Install and Legal Status
It is a bolt-on kit at 25 lbs, with mounting hardware included and about 2 hours of labor. It works with the factory rear exhaust, and it is a natural match for the Dinan F90 M5 Free Flow Axle-Back. Before you order, check your local rules. Dinan has not issued a CARB Executive Order for this kit and notes that some exhaust parts are not legal for use in California or states with similar regulations. Dinan part number D660-0081. Installation Notes
Plan on about 2 hours on a lift. Let the exhaust cool completely, support the rear section while the middle is out, and follow the Dinan instructions included with the kit.
- Raise the car on a lift and let the exhaust cool fully.
- Support the rear exhaust, loosen the clamps on either side of the factory resonator section, and unhook its hangers.
- Remove the factory resonated section.
- Fit the Dinan resonator delete and X-pipe, and loosely install the supplied hardware.
- Align the system, tighten all clamps and hardware, then start the car and check every joint for leaks.
