The Dinan PEX Cold Air Intake for the BMW G20 330i, G22 430i and G42 230i replaces that restriction with a semi-open system that outflows the factory intake by 58% or more. Dinan enlarged the whole lower airbox, not just the lid, and paired it with a filter that has 40% more area than stock. It is molded from high heat deflection PEX, so it keeps a clean, factory look under the hood.
What the Dinan PEX Cold Air Intake Does for Your B46/B48
Let's be straight about power. Dinan states that on a stock or lightly modified car the extra flow does not turn into a noteworthy horsepower gain. What you do get right away is a sharper throttle response and a louder, sportier sound, because the factory intake resonator is gone and you can finally hear the turbo spool. The real payoff comes later. When you add turbo and fueling upgrades, the stock intake becomes a ceiling. This one raises it.
The airbox is 60% larger than stock and the custom filter has 115 in² of area against 82 in² for the factory element. A secondary inlet, tested by Dinan across multiple opening shapes and locations, adds air without raising intake temperatures.
Dinan PEX Cold Air Intake Fitment and Legal Status
It bolts in with or without the factory strut bracing, in about an hour. Before you order, know this: it is not legal for sale or use in the State of California. It is sold under the EPA Tampering Policy for other states, CARB testing is pending, and no CARB Executive Order number has been issued. Dinan part number D760-0070. Installation Notes
This is a bolt-on job rated at about 1 hour of labor. A DIYer with basic hand tools can do it on a cool engine. Follow the Dinan instructions included with the kit.
- Let the engine cool and remove the engine cover as directed in the instructions.
- Disconnect the intake duct and remove the factory airbox and resonator.
- Install the Dinan lower airbox and filter, keeping the factory snorkel in place.
- Reconnect the intake duct and secure all clamps with the supplied hardware.
- Start the engine and confirm all connections are tight with no warning lights.
