It is the moment you turn in with some pace and feel the body take its time settling onto the outside wheels. The tall factory ride height does the S63 no favors either.
The Dinan Performance Spring Set for the X5M and X6M brings both down 1-3/8" (35mm) front and rear with a 20% increase in spring stiffness at each axle. That combination lowers the center of gravity, tightens suspension geometry and cuts body roll, dive and squat. It also closes up the wheel gap so the stance finally matches the performance.
How Dinan Performance Springs Sharpen the X5M and X6M
Dinan uses a dual rate design front and rear. The softer initial section keeps small bumps from crashing through the cabin, and the firmer main rate takes over when you load the chassis in a corner or under hard braking. The result is a big SUV that turns in more willingly, holds a flatter attitude and gives you more confidence at speed.
Each spring is CNC wound from high tensile chrome silicon wire, shot-peened for stress relief and preset so it holds its height and rate instead of sagging over time.
Dinan X5M / X6M Springs and Ride Quality
A 35mm drop is a real change, so do it right. Dinan designs these springs to be installed with the matching Dinan Ride Quality and Handling Kit, which keeps proper suspension travel at the lower ride height. Installation Notes
Dinan quotes 11 hours of labor. This is a shop job for most owners: it involves removing and disassembling the strut assemblies, compressing coil springs and a four-wheel alignment at the end.
- Raise the vehicle on a lift and remove the wheels.
- Remove the front strut assemblies and use a spring compressor to fit the Dinan front springs along with the Ride Quality and Handling Kit parts.
- Replace the rear springs and fit the matching kit components.
- Reinstall all components, lower the vehicle and let the suspension settle, then torque the suspension bolts at ride height.
- Have a four-wheel alignment done at the new ride height.
