The Dinan Matte Carbon Fiber Cold Air Intake replaces the split factory intake on the BMW G87 M2, G80 M3 and G82/G83 M4 with a single shared plenum and enlarged airboxes, finished in satin matte 2x2 twill carbon fiber. On Dinan's flow bench it moves 916 CFM against 815 CFM for the stock system at 28 in. H2O, a Dinan-tested 12% airflow gain.

The factory S58 intake feeds each turbo through its own separate duct. Dinan joins both into one center plenum with 50% more internal volume, feeding airboxes that are 26% larger than stock. Each airbox carries a cotton filter with 11% more filter area. The semi-open design adds secondary inlets, and Dinan reports the airflow gain comes without raising inlet temperatures. The layout sits symmetrically across the bay and simplifies the plumbing compared to the stock setup.
This is 100% genuine carbon fiber, not a vinyl wrap or hydro-dipped plastic. The matte clear keeps the 2x2 weave visible without the glare, so it reads as a factory-grade part in a satin-themed engine bay.
Dinan Matte Carbon Fiber Cold Air Intake Install and Legal Status
No cutting, no drilling. It is a bolt-on part with roughly 1.5 hours of labor, and it works on stock or already-modified cars. Before you order, know this: it is legal under EPA's Tampering Policy dated November 23, 2020, but it is not legal for sale or use in the State of California. Exclusion: the factory strut brace on the M3 CS and M4 CSL is not compatible with this intake.
Installation Notes
A confident DIYer with basic hand tools can do this in an afternoon, and any shop familiar with G8X M cars will have it done in about 1.5 hours. Work on a cool engine and follow the Dinan instructions included with the kit.
- Let the engine cool completely and remove the engine bay covers and factory strut brace as directed in the instructions.
- Loosen the clamps and remove both factory airboxes and intake ducts.
- Install the Dinan airboxes and cotton filters in the factory locations.
- Fit the carbon fiber center plenum and secure every coupler and clamp with the supplied hardware.
- Reinstall the strut brace and covers, then start the engine and check that all connections are tight with no warning lights.
