The Dinan ignition coil (part number D650-0008) is a direct replacement for the factory coil on BMW B-series engines: B38, B46, B48, B58 and S58. Dinan rates it at up to 10% more energy output than stock, for a stronger, more consistent spark every firing event. Black housing with Dinan branding, so it looks right when the engine cover is off.
Dinan Ignition Coil vs. a Stock Replacement
If you are replacing coils anyway, you can buy a like-for-like OEM part or you can buy more spark energy for about the same work. Dinan developed it for owners dealing with sluggish acceleration or misfires from worn coils.
Fitment is plug-and-play. It replaces BMW coil part numbers 12138643360, 12137619385 and 12138678438 using the factory connector and mounting points, with mounting hardware included. Vehicle Fitment
Dinan specifies this B-series style ignition coil for BMW engines:
- B-Series: B36, B38, B46, B48, B58 and S58
Order one coil per cylinder. Not for N-series (N20, N26, N55) or S55 engines. Not legal for sale or use on pollution-controlled vehicles in California (CARB approval pending). Confirm your engine code before ordering.
Installation Notes
A basic hand-tool job most owners finish in a driveway. Work on a cold engine and swap one coil at a time so connectors never get mixed up.
- Remove the engine cover.
- Release the connector lock on the first coil and unplug it.
- Remove the coil's mounting fastener if equipped and pull the coil straight up out of the spark plug well.
- Press the Dinan coil onto the spark plug until it seats, reinstall the fastener and plug in the connector until it clicks.
- Repeat for each cylinder, refit the engine cover, clear any stored misfire codes and test drive.
