The Dinan High-Flow Intake for the BMW F48 X1 and F39 X2 28i and the MINI Cooper S and JCW answers that with a second air source. A bell-mouthed side inlet and a 12 square inch opening in a carbon fiber airbox lid work alongside the factory snorkel. On Dinan's dyno that adds up to 12 WHP at 3,500 RPM and 23 lb-ft at 2,000 RPM, right where these engines live day to day.
How the Dinan High-Flow Intake Adds Air Without Adding Heat
Open-element intakes often trade airflow for hot underhood air. Dinan tested different shapes, sizes and positions for the secondary opening before settling on a 12 square inch inlet on the side of the lid away from the engine. In their testing, that placement showed no increase in turbo inlet temperatures across single and repeated gear pulls, steady cruising and 0 to 100 mph runs.
The large carbon fiber lid adds airbox volume and pairs with a free-flowing filter. You get sharper throttle response and more of the turbo and blow-off valve sound you bought a hot hatch or small SUV to hear. Dinan part number D760-0057. Sold by AutoTecknic, an authorized Dinan dealer.
California Status and Fitment Check
Read this before you order. This intake is not legal for sale or use in the State of California. CARB testing for 50-state compliance is pending, and no CARB Executive Order has been issued. On MINI models, check your MAF sensor housing: pre-LCI cars with the oval MAF housing are not compatible, and neither are B48E Clubman and Countryman JCW models.

Not compatible with pre-LCI MINIs with the oval MAF sensor housing, B48E Clubman and Countryman JCW models, or the X2 M35i.
Installation Notes
This is a bolt-on job of about an hour with basic hand tools. No cutting or drilling.
- Let the engine cool completely.
- Open the factory airbox and remove the factory lid and filter.
- Install the Dinan high-flow filter in the airbox.
- Fit the Dinan carbon fiber lid and secure it with the supplied hardware, checking that every seal and clamp is seated.
- Start the engine and check for any warning lights.
