SaleThe original F87 M2 is short, wide and a little bit rowdy. The N55 under the hood pulls hard to redline, but the factory exhaust keeps a lid on it. You hear more tire and intake than engine, and the tips out back look smaller than the car's attitude.
The Dinan Free Flow Axle-Back Exhaust for the BMW F87 M2 gives it the voice it should have had from the factory. It is 100% 304 stainless steel with a brushed finish, keeps a computer-controlled valve, and finishes in quad 3.5 in. laser-engraved black ceramic tips with the Dinan logo. On Dinan's dyno it adds 6 HP and 5 lb-ft at 6,600 RPM.

The valve is what makes this a daily-driver exhaust. At low speed it stays closed and limits noise, so cold starts and highway cruising stay civil. Under high load it opens fully and lets the N55 flow freely, which is where the gain shows up. The system reuses your stock valve actuators, so there is nothing to code and no tune to buy.
Install and Legal Status
At 45 lbs it goes in with about 1.2 hours of labor on factory mounting points. No cutting or welding. Because it does not affect emissions, Dinan lists it as legal for sale and use on emissions-controlled vehicles in all 50 states. It fits the 2016-2018 M2 only. Fits the N55-powered BMW M2:
- BMW M2 / F87 Coupe (2016-2018): M2
Not compatible: F87 M2 Competition and M2 CS (2019-2021, S55 engine).
Installation Notes
This is one of the easier exhaust installs on the M2. With a lift or good jack stands and basic hand tools, most owners finish in an afternoon. Let the exhaust cool fully and follow the Dinan instructions included with the system.
- Raise and support the car and let the exhaust cool completely.
- Unplug the factory valve actuator and loosen the clamp ahead of the rear muffler.
- Unhook the hangers and remove the factory rear section.
- Hang the Dinan axle-back, fit the stock valve actuator and reconnect it.
- Align the tips, tighten all hardware, then start the car and check for leaks and valve operation.
