SaleOpen the hood of an F90 M5 and you get a lot of plastic sitting on top of 4.4 liters of twin-turbo V8. Anyone who has owned an F8X M3 or M4 remembers the carbon wishbone across that engine bay. The M5 never got one. Now it does, and this one does real work.
The Dinan Carbon Fiber Cold Air Intake for the BMW F90 M5 adds a functional carbon fiber wishbone, enlarged airboxes and bigger filters for the S63 V8. On Dinan's flow bench each bank moves 637 CFM against 575 CFM stock at 28 in. H2O. That is 11% more airflow, with a centerpiece that makes the engine bay look like it belongs in a car at this level.
How the Dinan F90 M5 Cold Air Intake Brings In Cooler Air
The wishbone is not decoration. It carries a second air source from a central inlet behind the front grilles to both airboxes, adding outside air on top of the factory left and right inlets. That air comes from outside the hot core of the engine bay. Each airbox is 31% larger than stock, and each filter grows from 56.5 to 80 square inches. The payoff is less pressure drop ahead of the turbos, sharper throttle response and turbos that do not have to work as hard to make boost.
Every visible piece is 100% genuine 2x2 twill carbon fiber with a gloss UV-resistant coating, so it holds its finish under the hood heat. Not a wrap, not a printed overlay.
Dinan M5 Intake Install, Warranty and Legal Status
Install takes about 2 hours. Dinan backs it with the remainder of the vehicle's factory limited warranty, up to 4 years or 50,000 miles, or 2 years with unlimited miles, whichever is greater. Know this before you order: it is not legal for sale or use in the State of California. Not for the G90 M5 or the non-M G30 5 Series. The 2022 M5 CS is not listed by Dinan.
Installation Notes
Dinan rates the install at about 2 hours. A careful DIYer with hand tools can do it, and any shop that knows the F90 will have it done quickly. Work on a cool engine and follow the Dinan instructions included with the kit.
- Let the engine cool and remove the engine covers.
- Unplug the sensors, loosen the clamps and remove both factory airboxes and inlet ducts.
- Install the Dinan airboxes and filters in the factory locations.
- Fit the carbon fiber wishbone and connect it to the central inlet and both airboxes.
- Reconnect every sensor, tighten all clamps, then start the engine and check for leaks and warning lights.
