Sold OutBMW built the factory intake tube on the B46/B48 four-cylinder with baffles and a small Helmholtz chamber to keep it quiet. Those same features make the airflow turbulent and cost you power. Dinan took them out.
The Dinan Closed Carbon Fiber Cold Air Intake for the BMW 230i, 330i and 430i gives the engine a fully sealed airbox with 30% more volume than stock, a larger filter and a smooth carbon fiber intake tube. Dinan measured +6 hp and +6 lb-ft at 5000 rpm on a completely stock car, with no tune required.
Why a Closed Dinan 230i / 330i / 430i Intake
A sealed airbox keeps engine bay heat away from the filter and feeds the engine cold outside air, which is what a cold air intake is supposed to do on a turbocharged engine. The tradeoff is sound: the closed system adds only a small amount of intake noise. If you want a louder induction note, Dinan's semi-open intake adds an open port for more sound, and Dinan also offers a vented lid retrofit for owners of the closed system.
Dinan built this intake in carbon fiber instead of the mixed materials used on earlier four-cylinder intakes, with an improved coating so it keeps looking good in the engine bay for years.

Emissions and Legality
Dinan lists CARB EO D-176-56 for 2019-2021 F2x / F3x 230i, 330i and 430i models, which makes those cars 50-state legal. 2017-2018 models are not covered by the EO, so the intake is not legal for use in California on those years. If your car is registered in California, check your model year before ordering.
Installation Notes
Dinan estimates about 1 hour of labor. Follow Dinan's installation instructions, and keep the EO paperwork with the car if it is a 2019-2021 model registered in California.
- Work on a cold engine.
- Remove the factory airbox lid, filter and intake tube as described in Dinan's instructions.
- Install the Dinan airbox lid, filter and carbon fiber intake tube, then reconnect every sensor, hose and breather you disconnected.
- Tighten all clamps, start the engine and confirm there are no warning lights before driving.
