SaleYou can feel how good the B58 is every time you drive it. What you cannot hear is much of the turbo, because BMW built a resonator into the factory inlet to hide it. That same resonator sits right in the airflow ahead of the compressor. Take it out and the car sounds like what it is.
The Dinan Carbon Fiber Turbo Inlet Pipe replaces the plastic factory inlet on the BMW G20 M340i, G22 M440i, G42 M240i and G29 Z4 M40i, plus the Toyota GR Supra 3.0 that shares the same B58. Dinan removed the resonator, enlarged the internal diameter by an average of 7.7%, and gave the pipe 14% more overall volume than the OEM part.
What the Dinan Carbon Fiber Turbo Inlet Pipe Changes
The factory inlet uses extra features to quiet the turbo, and those features also restrict flow and add turbulence before the air reaches the compressor. Dinan's pipe drops them for a smoother, larger path. You get cleaner air delivery and more turbo sound under throttle. The pipe is real carbon fiber with CNC-machined fittings, so it drops in where the OEM part came out with no modification.
Dinan Turbo Inlet Pipe Fitment and Legal Status
On the M340i, M440i, M240i, Z4 M40i and GR Supra 3.0 it is a direct replacement for the OEM inlet. On LCI X3 M40i and X4 M40i models the Dinan Inlet Fit Kit D763-0101 is required, sold separately. Without it the pipe will not mate to the factory or Dinan intake. It is not legal for sale or use in the State of California and has no CARB Executive Order. Dinan part number D760-0062. Installation Notes
About a one-hour job with basic hand tools. Work on a cool engine and follow the Dinan instructions.
- X3 M40i and X4 M40i only: confirm you have the D763-0101 fit kit before starting.
- Let the engine cool completely and remove the engine cover and any parts blocking access to the inlet.
- Disconnect and remove the factory turbo inlet.
- Install the Dinan inlet at the turbo and connect it to the intake.
- Tighten every clamp, start the engine and confirm there are no leaks or warning lights.
