Sold OutBMW spent real engineering effort making the B58 quiet. The factory turbo inlet carries a resonator whose whole job is to hide the sound of the turbo spooling. It also puts turbulence and restriction right in front of the compressor. If you bought a turbocharged BMW, you probably want to hear it.
The Dinan Carbon Fiber Turbo Inlet Pipe replaces the factory plastic inlet on B58-powered BMW models, including the F-chassis M240i, 340i and 440i and the G-chassis 540i, 740i, 840i and X 40i models. It removes the resonator, opens the internal diameter by an average of 10.8%, and flows up to 24% more than stock, per Dinan.
What the Dinan Carbon Fiber Turbo Inlet Pipe Changes
The OEM inlet has extra chambers and features that restrict flow and disturb the air on its way to the compressor. Dinan's pipe drops them and gives the turbo a smooth, larger path with 24% more overall volume than the factory part. The result is cleaner air delivery and a lot more turbo sound under throttle. CNC-machined fittings make it a direct replacement for the OEM inlet, and the pipe itself is real carbon fiber, not plastic that cracks with age.
Dinan Turbo Inlet Pipe Fitment and Legal Status
Read this before you order. On F-chassis M240i, 340i and 440i models, this pipe is a direct replacement that works with the factory intake. On B58 G-chassis 5, 6, 7, 8 and X models, it will not mate with the factory intake system. Those cars also need the Dinan Cold Air Intake D760-0068 and the Dinan Inlet Fit Kit D763-0100, both sold separately. Installation Notes
On F-chassis cars this is about a one-hour job with basic hand tools. On G-chassis cars, install it together with the Dinan intake and fit kit. Work on a cool engine and follow the Dinan instructions.
- G-chassis only: confirm you have the D760-0068 intake and D763-0100 fit kit before starting.
- Let the engine cool completely and remove the engine cover and any parts blocking access to the inlet.
- Disconnect and remove the factory turbo inlet.
- Install the Dinan inlet at the turbo and connect it to the intake, using the fit kit on G-chassis cars.
- Tighten every clamp, start the engine and confirm there are no leaks or warning lights.
