The B58 in your Z4 M40i or GR Supra is one of the best straight sixes on sale today. The factory airbox feeding it is not. It is a closed plastic box built around cost and noise targets, and it asks a turbocharged engine to breathe through a small filter in a tight space.

The Dinan Carbon Fiber Cold Air Intake replaces that restrictive stock airbox on the BMW G29 Z4 M40i and Toyota GR Supra 3.0 with a larger, semi-open box built from real 2x2 gloss twill carbon fiber. On Dinan's testing it flows 58% more air than the stock system and makes up to +13 WHP and +14 lb-ft of torque on an otherwise completely stock car.

How the Dinan Carbon Fiber Cold Air Intake Makes More Power

Dinan did not just swap the lid. The airbox volume is 60% larger than stock, and the filter area grows by 40%, from 82 square inches to 115. Secondary air inlets give the semi-open box more places to pull air from. Peak gains land where you use them: +13 WHP at 6,000 rpm and +14 lb-ft at 3,500 rpm. A sound slot in the lid lets you hear more of the turbo working when you lean on it.

This is 100% genuine carbon fiber, not a vinyl wrap or hydro-dipped plastic. The 2x2 twill weave is the part itself, finished in a deep gloss clear, so the engine bay finally looks as serious as the car drives.

Dinan Cold Air Intake Install and Legal Status

It is a bolt-on with about 1 hour of labor, and it works on stock or already upgraded builds. Dinan's published gains were measured on an otherwise stock vehicle. Before you order, know the legal status: this intake is EPA legal (Emission Code 7) but it is not legal for sale or use in the State of California. Installation Notes

A DIYer with basic hand tools can finish this in about an hour, and any shop that works on B58 cars will have it done quickly. Work on a cool engine and follow the Dinan instructions included with the kit.

  1. Let the engine cool and remove the engine bay cover as directed in the instructions.
  2. Loosen the clamps and remove the factory airbox and filter.
  3. Set the Dinan carbon fiber airbox and filter in the factory location.
  4. Connect the intake to the turbo inlet and tighten every clamp with the supplied hardware.
  5. Start the engine and check that all connections are tight with no warning lights.
