The Dinan Carbon Fiber Cold Air Intake for the BMW G20 330i, G22 430i and G42 230i flows 58% more air than the stock system. Dinan did not stop at a new lid. The entire lower airbox is redesigned and 60% larger than stock, and it holds a custom filter with 40% more area than the factory element.
How the Dinan Carbon Fiber Cold Air Intake Flows More Air
On Dinan's flow bench the system is at least 58% less restrictive than the factory intake. Filter area grows from 82 sq in to 115 sq in, and the semi-open design adds patterned secondary inlets. Dinan tested those openings to confirm they feed extra air without raising intake temperatures, and the kit still works with the factory snorkel. You also get more induction sound, which is half the fun on a four-cylinder.
The lid and lower box are real carbon fiber, not a vinyl wrap or hydro-dipped plastic. It works with or without the factory strut bracing, so nothing else on the car has to change.
Dinan Cold Air Intake Install and Legal Status
Plan on about one hour with basic tools, no cutting or drilling. Dinan does not list a tune as required. Before you order, know this: it is legal under EPA's Tampering Policy dated November 23, 2020, but it is not legal for sale or use in the State of California. Installation Notes
Most owners with basic hand tools can do this in about an hour. Work on a cool engine and follow the Dinan instructions included with the kit.
- Let the engine cool completely and remove the engine cover if fitted.
- Unclip the factory airbox lid, loosen the clamps and remove the complete factory airbox.
- Install the Dinan lower box and filter in the factory location, keeping the factory snorkel.
- Fit the carbon lid and secure every clamp with the supplied hardware.
- Start the engine and confirm all connections are tight with no warning lights.
