Brake hard or get aggressive mid-corner, though, and the rear can feel like it is doing its own thing. That is not the tires. That is rubber bushings letting the rear wheels change toe under load.
The Dinan Rear Suspension Link Kit replaces those bushings on the BMW F90 M5 and F91/F92/F93 M8. Dinan swaps the rear toe links and forward lower trailing links for billet aluminum arms with Teflon-lined rod ends and precision ball joints. The rear stays where you put it under acceleration, braking and cornering, while the car keeps its ride comfort.
What the Dinan Rear Suspension Link Kit Replaces
At the toe link, the factory rubber bushing and curved forged alloy rod give way to a Teflon-lined machined steel rod end and a stiffer billet aluminum arm. At the forward lower trailing link, rubber-bushed factory parts are replaced with billet aluminum arms and precision ball joints. Removing that bushing deflection is what sharpens the response and keeps rear toe steady when you lean on the car.
Street Manners and Install Time
Solid joints usually mean noise. Dinan answers that with rubber boots that protect each rod end from dirt and water, and nylon-lined ball joint bearings for quiet operation, so this works on a car you drive every day. Plan for about 3 hours of labor plus a rear alignment, which is required. It is a suspension part with no effect on emissions and no tuning needed. Dinan part number D280-0020. Installation Notes
Professional installation is recommended. Dinan lists about 3 hours of labor, and a wheel alignment is required afterward. Use secure jack stands and follow the Dinan instructions for rod end orientation and spacer placement.
- Raise the car onto secure jack stands and remove the rear wheels.
- Remove the factory rear toe links and install the Dinan toe links in the orientation shown in the instructions.
- Remove the factory forward lower trailing arms and install the Dinan assemblies.
- Reattach the ride height sensor and torque every fastener to the values in the Dinan instructions.
- Reinstall the rear wheels and have the car aligned per BMW procedures before driving hard.
