A G-series M340i xDrive or M440i xDrive is brutally quick point to point. The B58 and the all-wheel-drive traction make sure of that. What holds it back on a twisty road is the roll: the factory bars are set up for a luxury ride, so the body leans and the front end starts to push before the tires are anywhere near done.

The Dinan Adjustable Sway Bar Set replaces both anti-roll bars on xDrive BMW G20 3 Series, G22/G23/G26 4 Series and G42 2 Series models. The hollow front bar steps up from 23.1mm to 25mm and is 56% stiffer than stock. The hollow rear bar goes from 18mm to 19mm and is 54% to 66% stiffer, depending on which of its two holes you use.

Adjustable Sway Bar Set for xDrive G-Series BMWs

This set is built for all-wheel-drive cars only. If your car is rear-wheel drive, Dinan makes a separate set for it, so check the badge on the trunk before you order. On an xDrive car the added rear stiffness helps the chassis rotate instead of washing wide, while the front bar keeps the nose flat on turn-in. The result is less body roll, more mechanical grip and a car that is more stable at the limit.

Will it ruin the ride? Sway bars mainly act when one side of the car moves more than the other, so straight-line bumps feel close to stock. The two-hole rear bar lets you pick a softer or firmer balance. The bars are high tensile alloy steel in hollow tubular construction, powder coated, with polyurethane bushings supplied.

Sway Bar Installation and Legal Status

This is not a driveway job. Dinan rates it at 9.5 hours including alignment, and the subframe has to be dropped, so Dinan highly recommends professional installation. As a suspension part it has no effect on emissions. Dinan part number D120-0635. Sold by AutoTecknic, an authorized Dinan dealer.

Installation Notes

Book this with a shop that knows G-series BMWs. Dinan rates the job at 9.5 hours including a four-wheel alignment, and the front subframe must be dropped to fit the front bar. Follow the Dinan instructions supplied with the kit.

  1. Raise the car on a lift and support it safely.
  2. Support and drop the front subframe as directed, then remove the factory front bar.
  3. Install the Dinan front bar with the new polyurethane bushings, greased as supplied, and raise the subframe back into place.
  4. Remove the factory rear bar and install the Dinan rear bar in your chosen hole with the new bushings.
  5. Torque all fasteners to spec with the suspension at ride height.
  6. Perform a four-wheel alignment and road test.
