SalePush a G80 M3 or G82 M4 hard on a cold back road and you know the feeling. The front is planted, the rear is nervous, and the traction light is doing more work than you'd like. Stock ride height doesn't help. It leaves a gap over the tires that looks like the car is still in transit.
Dinan's Adjustable Coilover Suspension System for the BMW G80 M3 and G82/G83 M4 fixes both, without throwing away the factory adaptive dampers you already paid for. You get threaded ride height adjustment and a spring package tuned to make the car more neutral, not just lower.
Why the Dinan Adjustable Coilover System Works Differently
Many lowering kits just stiffen everything. On a G8X that makes the rear even looser. Dinan went the other way. The front springs are 15% stiffer to cut body roll, while the rear springs are 10% softer and switched from the factory progressive design to dual-rate. The softer rear finds more grip and stays composed at the limit, so the car rotates when you ask and stays put when you don't.
Your factory electronic shocks stay in place and keep working with every drive mode. That is also why the price is a fraction of a full aftermarket coilover: you are not paying to replace BMW's excellent adaptive dampers. Threaded collars let you set ride height yourself, Dinan-spec progressive bump stops protect the shocks at the lower settings, and suspension packers let you tune bump travel. Hard parts are machined 6061-T6 aluminum, black anodized.
Dinan Adjustable Coilover Ride Height Range
Drop the car up to 1-1/8" in front and 2-1/4" in the rear. For the best balance of ride and stance, Dinan recommends 3/4" (M4) or 7/8" (M3) lower in front and 3/4" lower in the rear. Installation Notes
This is a professional-level job. Dinan quotes 9.2 hours of labor, and it requires spring compressors and a lift. Plan on a four-wheel alignment after setting ride height. At lower settings, check tire clearance through full steering lock and suspension travel, especially with non-stock wheels or tires.
- Raise and support the car, then remove the wheels.
- Remove the front struts and rear springs following the Dinan instructions, keeping the factory electronic shocks.
- Install the threaded collars, Dinan springs, progressive bump stops and packers on the factory shocks.
- Reinstall the assemblies with the factory upper mounts and isolators, then set your target ride height on the collars.
- Settle the suspension, recheck ride height, verify tire clearance, and complete a four-wheel alignment.
