The Genuine BMW Flange Sealant L-5970 is BMW’s factory-approved black RTV sealant, developed in partnership with LOCTITE for modern BMW engines and driveline components. In many applications, BMW has eliminated traditional gaskets altogether and instead specifies this sealant for proper sealing and long-term reliability.
BMW L-5970 RTV is designed for use on flanges, stamped metal or plastic covers, and housings such as oil pans, differential covers, and timing covers. It offers excellent resistance to oil and coolant, maintains elasticity under high vibration, and delivers reliable sealing performance even at elevated operating temperatures.
This sealant is specifically required on BMW engines including B38, B46, B48, B58, and S58, where BMW does not provide conventional oil pan or differential gaskets. Using Genuine BMW L-5970 ensures correct factory-spec sealing, preventing leaks while maintaining OEM service standards.
