The rear suspension geometry on the M5 and M8 was engineered to serve a wide range of driving styles. Rubber bushings in the toe links and forward trailing links absorb minor road inputs and give the suspension a compliant, forgiving quality for daily driving. In hard use, that same compliance becomes the liability.
Under threshold braking and aggressive acceleration, those bushings flex. The rear wheels develop excessive toe change, and the rear end moves in ways you didn't input. On a platform with 600 hp going to all four wheels, imprecision at the rear is the wrong compromise. Dinan rebuilds both critical link locations to remove that variable.
The rear toe link rubber bushing is replaced with a Teflon-lined machined steel rod end, and the curved OEM forged alloy rod is swapped for a stouter billet aluminum arm. The result is a direct, load-bearing connection between hub and chassis with none of the deflection the rubber-bushed setup allows. The forward lower trailing links receive the same treatment: billet aluminum arms with precision ball joints replace the OEM rubber-bushed components, adding the same precision Dinan uses in their front monoball kit.
Rubber boots protect both rod ends from contamination, so the precision you install stays precise through street use. Nylon-lined bearings keep operation quiet. The geometry change is repeatable and functional. The car responds the same way every time you ask it to.
