The F86 X6M has a fastback roofline that begs to sit low, and a twin-turbo V8 that makes it feel like it should. Then you see it in profile and there is daylight over every tire. It looks taller than it drives.

H&R Sport Springs close that gap. These F86 X6M lowering springs drop the car 1.3 inches front and 1.3 inches rear, per H&R's published figures for this exact application. The coupe silhouette finally matches the performance, and the lower center of gravity cuts body roll when you lean on it.

F86 X6M Lowering Springs That Keep the Ride Civil

H&R designs its Sport Springs to work with the factory dampers, including the X6M's electronically adjustable adaptive suspension, so your drive modes still do their job. The progressive spring design absorbs expansion joints and rough pavement, then firms up under cornering load. It is a daily driver that turns in sharper, not a slammed show car that punishes you on the freeway.

Quality is not a guess. H&R winds these springs in Germany from 54SiCr6 spring steel, shot-peens them for fatigue life, and tests each one in an ISO 9001 certified facility, so they hold their height for the long haul. Sold by AutoTecknic, an authorized H&R dealer.

Installation Notes

Professional installation is strongly recommended. Coil springs are stored energy, and swapping them safely requires a proper spring compressor and suspension experience. A four-wheel alignment is required after installation, because lowering changes camber and toe. Plan on roughly a half day at a qualified shop.

  1. Raise and securely support the vehicle, then remove the wheels.
  2. Remove the front strut assemblies and use a spring compressor to swap the factory springs for the H&R springs, reusing the factory mounts and hardware.
  3. Complete the rear of the car following H&R's instructions for your exact configuration.
  4. Torque suspension fasteners to factory spec with the vehicle at ride height, not hanging on the lift.
  5. Let the springs settle for a few hundred miles, then get a full four-wheel alignment.
