The Dinan Carbon Fiber Cold Air Intake fits the BMW F95 X5 M, F96 X6 M, G09 XM and the X5, X6 and X7 M60i. It adds a secondary air inlet at the front of the engine bay, enlarges both airboxes by 56%, and fits higher-capacity filters. On Dinan's flow bench it moves 630 CFM per bank against 575 CFM stock at 30 in. H2O, a Dinan-tested 10% gain.
How the Dinan Carbon Fiber Cold Air Intake Feeds the V8
Dinan developed the secondary inlet with continuous CFD analysis, and its cross-section is 86% larger than the factory opening. Carbon runners guide that extra air into each airbox so the flow stays smooth and even on both banks. Each side gets 82 sq in of filter area against 51 sq in stock, a 46% increase. Dinan notes the factory intake supports up to Stage 1 power levels. This system lowers the load on the turbos and leaves more headroom if you plan to go further.
Every visible piece is 100% genuine carbon fiber, not a wrap or hydro-dipped plastic. Open the hood and it looks like it belongs on a car at this price.
Dinan Cold Air Intake Install and Legal Status
It bolts in with no cutting or drilling and takes about two hours. No tune is required. Before you order, know this: the intake is legal under EPA's Tampering Policy dated November 23, 2020, but it is not legal for sale or use in the State of California. Installation Notes
Plan on about two hours. A confident DIYer can do it with hand tools, and any shop that works on M cars will find it straightforward. Work on a cool engine and follow the Dinan instructions included with the kit.
- Let the engine cool completely and remove the engine covers as directed in the instructions.
- Loosen the clamps and remove both factory airboxes and filters.
- Install the Dinan airboxes and filters in the factory locations.
- Fit the secondary inlet and carbon runners, then secure every clamp with the supplied hardware.
- Reinstall the covers, start the engine and confirm there are no leaks or warning lights.
