The M62 V8 in the E39 540i is one of BMW's most underrated engines. It has the displacement and character to back up the performance reputation, and Dinan spent decades learning exactly how to unlock more of it. This intake is part of that story.
The Dinan Cold Air Intake for the E39 540i replaces the factory airbox with a purpose-built system that relocates the filter behind the front bumper and below the headlights, insulating it from engine compartment heat and placing it directly in the path of cooler, denser outside air. That distinction matters. This is a true cold air intake, not a short ram that moves the filter three inches and calls it done.
The filter connects to the airflow meter via an optimized 4" diameter carbon fiber intake tube designed to minimize air turbulence through its path to the engine. A larger cylindrical performance filter replaces the factory unit, increasing flow capacity for better engine efficiency at every RPM.
Power gains are measured at +18 HP and +20 lb-ft when the intake is paired with Dinan engine software. The intake alone improves throttle response and intake sound character. For the full power number, the software is part of the equation and worth considering together.

- Install the carbon fiber intake tube in the optimized routing position
- Mount the performance filter in the designated location behind the front bumper, below the headlights
