AutoTecknic Competizione Sport dry carbon front grille on a BMW G80 M3

The front grille is the first thing anyone sees on a BMW G80 M3 or G82 M4, and it's the single biggest visual change you can make to the nose without touching the bumper. AutoTecknic makes eight different grilles for the G8X M3 and M4, from a $500 gloss black option to a lightweight two-piece dry carbon grille built for the track. This guide compares every one of them so you can pick the right grille for your car the first time.

Every grille in this guide is a direct replacement for the factory front grille on the BMW G80 M3 Sedan (2021-2026), G82 M4 Coupe (2021-2026), and G83 M4 Convertible (2022-2026). Each one mounts to the factory locations with no cutting or drilling, and all eight work with PDC (Park Distance Control) sensors.

What Sets AutoTecknic Grilles Apart

Plenty of G8X grilles look similar in photos. The differences show up in how they're made and how they fit.

  • Real prepreg carbon, cured in an autoclave. All six of our dry carbon grilles are made from prepreg carbon fiber and cured under heat and pressure in an autoclave, the same process used for motorsport and OEM carbon parts. Many lower-priced grilles are wet-layup carbon or a carbon-look finish, which is heavier and more prone to pinholes and air pockets under the clear coat.
  • Room for the 'Competition' badge. On a Competition model, BMW mounts a small 'Competition' badge under the M3 or M4 badge on the grille. Many generic replica grilles only have room for the M3 or M4 badge, so you lose the Competition badge. The emblem plaques on our Competizione Sport, Avanzato, and Competizione GT4 grilles are designed to take both, so the car still looks factory-correct.
  • Factory mounting. Every grille mounts to the factory locations with no cutting or drilling, and all eight work with PDC sensors.

Step 1: Check Whether Your Car Has ACC

Before you look at styles, check one thing: does your M3 or M4 have ACC (Active Cruise Control)? This is the most important fitment detail for a G8X grille, because a non-ACC grille will not fit a car that has ACC.

  • Available in an ACC version: Competizione Sport Dry Carbon, Avanzato, Motorsport V2, Competizione GT4, Motorsport V1
  • Non-ACC cars only: Podium V1, Competizione Sport Gloss Black, Competizione Sport Redline

Not sure what your car has? Send us your VIN and we'll confirm the right version before you order.

The Dry Carbon Grilles

Six of the eight grilles are made from prepreg dry carbon fiber, cured under heat and pressure in an autoclave. That process removes excess resin and air, so the part is lighter and stronger than wet-layup carbon, with a clean twill weave and virtually no pinholes under the clear coat. It isn't vinyl, hydro dip, or a printed carbon look. If you want the details, read our breakdown of dry carbon vs. pre-preg carbon.

Competizione Sport Dry Carbon Front Grille

AutoTecknic Competizione Sport dry carbon front grille for BMW G80 M3

The Competizione Sport Dry Carbon Front Grille is our best-selling G8X grille over the past six months. It's a full replacement for the OEM grille that mounts on the factory bumper tabs for a tight, rattle-free fit. It comes in separate versions for cars with and without ACC, and the emblem plaque takes your OEM M3 or M4 badge plus the factory 'Competition' badge.

Choose it if: you want the most popular dry carbon look for the G8X and need ACC compatibility.

Avanzato Dry Carbon Front Grille

AutoTecknic Avanzato dry carbon front grille for BMW G80 M3

The Avanzato Dry Carbon Front Grille is an original AutoTecknic design, built in-house from scratch rather than copied from a factory or race part. The slat lines follow the G8X's front fascia, and it's finished in high-gloss twill. It works with ACC and PDC, mounts to the OEM locations, and keeps your M3 or M4 badge and 'Competition' badge.

Choose it if: you want dry carbon with a design that's unique to AutoTecknic.

Motorsport V2 Dry Carbon Front Grille

AutoTecknic Motorsport V2 dry carbon front grille for BMW G80 M3

The Motorsport V2 Dry Carbon Front Grille gives the G80 M3 and G82 M4 the Motorsport look with an OEM-style fit. Like the factory grille it replaces, it's a single piece, with the mounting tabs molded into the carbon itself rather than glued or screwed on afterward. It installs and sits the way the original does, with nothing to loosen or rattle over time. It's compatible with ACC and PDC.

Choose it if: you want the Motorsport design with one-piece construction and a fit that feels factory.

Motorsport V1 vs. V2: What's the Difference?

The two Motorsport grilles share a design direction but are built for different priorities.

Motorsport V1 Motorsport V2
Construction Two-piece One-piece, like the OEM grille
Weight Lighter Heavier than V1
Built for Weight savings and track use OEM-style fitment for the street
Material Prepreg dry carbon, autoclave cured Prepreg dry carbon, autoclave cured
ACC / PDC ACC version available, PDC compatible ACC version available, PDC compatible
Price from $650 $945

Go with the V1 if the car sees track days or you're chasing weight anywhere you can find it. The two-piece design keeps it as light as possible, and it's the less expensive of the two.

Go with the V2 if you want the grille to fit and feel like a factory part. The one-piece construction mirrors the OEM grille, so it installs the same way and sits just as solid on a daily-driven car.

Competizione GT4 Dry Carbon Front Grille

AutoTecknic Competizione GT4 dry carbon front grille for BMW G80 M3 and G82 M4

The Competizione GT4 Dry Carbon Front Grille takes its styling cues from BMW's GT4 race car. It uses the OEM bumper tabs for a secure install, comes in ACC and non-ACC versions, and its emblem plaque is designed to keep the OEM 'Competition' badge.

Choose it if: you want a GT4-inspired front end in dry carbon.

Motorsport V1 and Podium V1 Dry Carbon Front Grilles

AutoTecknic Motorsport V1 dry carbon front grille for BMW G80 M3 and G82 M4

The Motorsport V1 and Podium V1 are the most affordable way into a dry carbon G8X grille, both starting at $650. Both are lightweight two-piece designs built for weight savings and track use, and each uses unibody carbon mounting tabs for a secure install. The difference is ACC: the Motorsport V1 is available for cars with ACC, while the Podium V1 fits non-ACC cars only.

Choose one if: you want the lightest dry carbon grille at the lowest price. Pick the Motorsport V1 if your car has ACC.

The Gloss Black Grilles

If you like the Competizione Sport shape but don't need carbon, these two cost roughly half as much. Both are molded in non-recycled ABS, mount on the factory bumper tabs, and fit non-ACC cars only.

Competizione Sport Gloss Black Front Grille

AutoTecknic Competizione Sport gloss black front grille for BMW G80 M3

The Competizione Sport Gloss Black Front Grille has the same aggressive design as the dry carbon version, finished in deep gloss black. Leave it all black for a stealth look, or add a 3M vinyl color accent (Blue Raspberry, Bright Yellow, Gloss Bright Orange, Green Envy, Sky Blue, Storm Gray, or White) to tie it into your paint or calipers.

Choose it if: you want the Competizione look for the lowest price, with an optional color accent.

Competizione Sport Redline Front Grille

AutoTecknic Competizione Sport Redline front grille for BMW G80 M3 and G82 M4

The Competizione Sport Redline Front Grille is a limited edition version in gloss black with a factory-painted gloss red surround accent.

Choose it if: you want a bold red accent that's painted on, not a vinyl add-on.
